By the tender age of 19, makeup artist Mélanie Inglessis had already lived in Montréal, Paris, and London, spending her time drawing inspiration for her future career from an eclectic range of sources. Not known to restrict herself to a passion for beauty and fashion, Mélanie has always cultivated an expansive appreciation for art and craftsmanship in general. She started her career with solid credentials, attending the London College of Fashion. During her studies, Mélanie trained her eye on other popular art forms as well. There is good reason why Mélanie is the go-to makeup artist for celebrities, photographers, and directors who want more than just a pretty face: Mélanie’s deep understanding of the history of beauty is enriched by an equal appreciation of, say, architectural expressionism or art deco.
Mélanie honed her technique under some of the most celebrated makeup artists of our generation: Charlotte Tilbury, Pat McGrath and Val Garland. During this show-heavy period in her career, Mélanie gained the technical expertise and professionalism necessary to establish her lucrative career in New York and Los Angeles. She has worked and consulted for MAC, Shu Uemera, and Make Up For Ever.
Mélanie is well known in fashion circles for her ability to make her clients’ skin appear to radiate from within. Her perfectionist approach to skin is responsible for flawlessly illuminating the gorgeous faces of Olivia Wilde, Kate Hudson, Rosamund Pike, and Lea Michele, creating flawless, light-bearing skin punctuated by a hint of rock n’ roll. Mélanie believes that her clients should never feel like they are wearing makeup, but that the makeup they wear become an integral part of their self-expression.
A true testament to Mélanie’s skill and vision, however, is how sought-after she is for red carpet glamour by her clients as well as by major brands. Mélanie has partnered with Lancôme, Chanel and Sisley Paris to promote her red carpet looks on celebrities.
Mélanie currently resides in Los Angeles but works in New York as well. She still travels globally and continues to collaborate with some of the most celebrated directors and photographers in the world, such as Jonas Åkerlund, Max Abadian, Matthew Brookes, and Norman Jean Roy. Her versatility can be seen in Allure, InStyle, Marie Claire, Interview and i-D.
As a true artist, Mélanie has proven herself capable of transforming makeup from a medium ranging from everyday to aspirational beauty.
